BIPPA AND OPPOSITION

-By SND

A month long visit to Nepal eventually persuaded me to reconsider my understanding and my assumption of contemporary socio-political and economic situation of Nepal. As I silently observed and experienced I came into a conclusion that to know the truth one has go at down to earth. Although Nepalese media has steadily progressed after 1990s movement, it hasn’t gained enough credibility yet.  It is completely unwise if we just make an assumption after reading various electronic media abroad. Nepalese media in a way don’t give you balanced and unbiased news and thoughts. They, in a way speak party based news which distort the reality. I found that Nepalese living abroad are more anxious about peace process and new federal constitution promulgation than Nepalese living inside Nepal. While visiting various places, people seemed to be more concentrated in how to arrange two times meals than those of political issues.

The general scenarios are depressive. Highways and roads are crumbled everywhere as if they never come to the priority list of development agenda. On the contrary to the road condition, a number of vehicles have tremendously increased creating terrific challenge to traffic system. The traffic system in the capital city Kathamandu and tourists’ city Pokhara is chaos so as they are in other cities. The price of everyday commodities has sky rocketed by which the normal life in Nepal has become very tough. It seems that most of the people are motivated on tactics of profit making by hooking or crooking showing more materialists.  Leaders who led a decade long civil war in Nepal have become neo-aristocrats in the capital owning new bungalow and very expensive cars. Those agents of political transformation of Nepal have become millionaire without doing any industries and business. Corruption is deeply rooted in every institution where you can’t believe that your work will be done honestly and instantly. In case of 89% remittance spent on household expenses, there is nothing wrong at making deal of BIPPA. This deal not only should be confined with India but be expanded to China and other European countries.
